Exams / GCSE Revision

On 15 March 2020 the Secretary of State for Education announced that the summer 2020 GCSE, AS and A Level exam series would be cancelled to help fight the spread of COVID-19.

To support the awarding of final grades centres were instructed to award a Centre Assessed Grade which was the grade most likely to have been achieved had examinations have gone ahead as planned.  Centres were also asked for a single rank order of students within each grade to allow exam boards to complete their statistical standardisation process before awarding a final grade for a student.

It is to be noted that the final grade awarded may differ to the centre assessed grade after this exam board moderation process has been completed and this is out of the control of individual academies.

Below you will find some important documents which will explain the process that was used and will attempt to answer some of the questions frequently asked regarding this year's examination process.

  1. Pingle Process for Centre Assessed Grading.
  2. A set of frequently asked questions regarding examination grades awarded in 2020.
  3. Guidance for examinations in GCSE, AS and A Levels.
  4. Guidance for vocational qualifications.
