Dear Parents and Carers
I am sure you will be aware of how much your children rely on modern communication technology such as the internet, smart phones and social networking as part of their daily lives. Technology moves very fast and it is difficult to keep up with what your children are using, or to even understand it.
The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), commissioned by the government to look at this and the dangers this new technology can bring, states that there is a serious generation gap in the understanding and use of modern communication technology. We have all heard of worrying stories involving young people online, particularly through the use of social networking sites.
We would like to offer parents & carers the opportunity to attend an information evening on Wednesday 14 June to learn about what applications children are currently using and how to ensure that you are protecting your children from online risks and dangers. The evening will be led by Traci Good, Derbyshire County Council’s e-safety consultant. It is open to parents/carers of students of The Pingle Academy as well as parent/carers of students at our partner primary schools. However, due to the nature of the topic, it would be beneficial if students under the age of 16 did not accompany parents/carers.
The session will start at 6pm, will last approximately one hour and will take place in the main hall. Refreshments will be available. If you wish to attend, please reply via email to firstname.lastname@example.org indicating how many places you would like to reserve. We do hope to see you.
